Queenstown

One of many Fiordland waterfalls

Those two white specs in the middle are penguins, honest

Another Fiordland waterfall

In real life, the color of the whole lake was closer to what you see in the bottom right corner

Mountains behind that lake

It's not green!

Kiwi version of Yellowstone

Even the lakes are green!

i went to new zealand last november. i took a bunch of pictures, but they really don't do justice to the real thing. of the hundred some that i took, these are the ones that come closest to showing off the true character of the sights. the one consolation i have is that not even peter jackson really captured the beauty of the country.

the whole country is like one giant national park. in the southern hemisphere, november is the middle of spring, so maybe it isn't always like this, but everything was green. and i mean everything. even the roads and the telephone poles. and it rained a lot. i got a book with professional photographs of the country, and they always have such clear blue sky. i never saw any of it. but that did mean lots of fresh waterfalls. i went on a boat trip out in the fiords near queenstown (south island) and there were waterfalls like you see stars in the night sky.
